Biography:

Benny Shakes is an established stand-up comedian, accessibility advocate, and creative powerhouse behind some of the most inclusive and original comedy in the UK.

He is the co-host of the hit Edinburgh show Disabled Cants and the creator and star of Blue Badge Bunch, a critically acclaimed, disabled-led game show for all ages. Funded by Arts Council England, the show mixes humour and education, giving families a fun and accessible insight into life with a disability.

Benny has toured the UK twice, had two successful runs at the Pleasance Courtyard during the Edinburgh Fringe, and performed at prestigious events like the VAULT Festival. He’s also brought his energy and experience into schools, community groups, and corporate events—leading workshops and speaking at organisations including ITV Able.

Slugageddon

Recently, Benny launched Slugageddon — a hilarious and chaotic children’s show packed with laughter, sock puppets, and slime. The show introduces kids to slugs, disability, and teamwork in a brilliantly silly way, and has already been delighting audiences in libraries and family venues across the country.

NOMINEE: Best Kids’ Show – UK Kids’ Comedy Festival

Benny is now taking Slugageddon to Edinburgh — bringing slime, silliness, and slug mayhem to the Fringe like never before.

“Shakes is a natural entertainer for younger audiences. His energetic delivery and infectious enthusiasm ensure that every child feels seen and involved, inviting them to play, interact, and learn through a series of lively games and challenges. The atmosphere is welcoming and accessible, with a tone pitched perfectly for audiences aged 10 and under.” – EdFestMag

When he’s not on stage, Benny shares his LEGO journey—building sets with a stronger right hand and a weaker left due to cerebral palsy. His builds, like his comedy, highlight creativity, patience, and a brilliant sense of humour, proving disability doesn’t limit imagination.

.

Benny continues to receive praise for his authentic disability representation, joyful originality, and his commitment to making comedy a more inclusive and empowering space for everyone. Most recently, he brought home the ISH Panel Prize Award from the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, marking another milestone in his mission to celebrate and elevate disabled voices in comedy.
